2000 LA Reunion
by Lilybell "Bey" Mendoza Calderon
As you guys know, we held our 2000 reunion last Saturday at our humble home in Mission Viejo, CA. Let me first say that it was indeed a successful affair ... there were new faces and of course a good number of loyal attendees. The overall theme was JMD-80's Nostalgia and it was indeed a Nostalgic affair!
Gigi Almira was the first to arrive - and won a nice prize for it! The potluck affair was supposed to start at 2:30pm, Gigi was there at 1pm and helped out with the arrangements. (I made the mistake of asking her how many kids she has - she's very much single - AND HAPPY TO BE!) A few minutes after Gigi arrived, I got a phone call from Lourdes (Seril) - who - because of the phone call - was with us in spirit - we hope to get more of you on the next reunion, Malou! Pam Lazatin (Vakhordjian) then came with husband Pete and cute 3-yr old daughter Michelle. Michelle, who's got Pam's distinctive dimples, looks like a future Ms Philippines-USA.
Then Tatiana and husband David and the most well-behaved 4-month old you'll ever set your eyes on, Andre, came. They drove from San Jose the day before and stayed with us overnight. Lizette!!!! Nasaan ka?!?!?!?! Sabi nila baka nakatulog ka raw!!!!! Ikaw naman - everyone was expecting you - kaya please make sure you make it to the next reunion ok??
Jen Protacio graced us next with her very slim presence...although
without the husband and 3 kids - you would think she didn't have
any kids at all! - she came with guess who? - Sa-Sa (Rosalie) Cuyson
from Batch 85 (looks like we have an 85 rep every year!). Sa-Sa
didn't bring hubby and 2-yr old son either, but brought a wonderful
scrapbook/album of her bundle of joy (which I almost ruined - sorry
ulit ha?!). Jenn hitched a ride with just recently hitched Daisy
Valeroso (Lee) whose husband Robert was in Dublin. Daisy and Robert
got married last June and would have been perfect for our Newlywed
game.
Heidi Villamayor (Ceballos) then arrived with husband Jesse and cute 7-month old daughter Joanna. Heidi - for the nth time - and sarap ng salmon dish na dinala mo!!! Please please please, email us the recipe. Heidi and Jesse won the newlywed game hands down - with a perfect score!!! Nakakainggit ang sweetness ng dalawa....and they have been married for 3 years now.

The
screaming started when Sybil arrived with husband Sonny and 6-yr
old twins Cyril and Austin. We missed Sybil at the '99 reunion and
we made sure she attended this one. Everyone then started to partake
of the delicious food..... pero bakit wala pa si Carolyn???? - always
the stariray of our reunions! Well, Carol finally arrived, sporting
a new straight do and sexy (grrowl) leopard design outfit. She came
with husband Mario, 2 sons Justin and Chad and a nephew. Nanood
pala sila ng baseball game. Justin is sooo tall - parang boyfriend
ni Carolyn! Chad designed the front image on our 2000 reunion t-shirt.
A few minutes later, Maluz Marguez (Pangilinan) arrived with sweet
son, Christian and a niece. Maluz drove down from San Diego on a
rental car - she's still used to the freeways after a few years
of migrating back to the Philippines.
And our other Philippine representative, Sheila Barcelona arrived as well! Ang taas mo pa rin Sheila! Both Maluz and Sheila are touring the US right now. Suffice it to say, the party finally begun!!!
We had (always unbreakable) Pinata and then musical chairs for the kids , then the newlywed game for all the couples present. We had questions like, what was your husbands pant waist size - on your wedding day!, what was the last movie you saw, what was your last argument about and who won? We had a good round of funny answers and nope, hindi nangamoy away pagkatapos! And as I said earlier, Heidi and Jesse won a perfect score! we then had a JMD 80's trivia contest with 2 teams - questions like, what was the hit american movie which starred Scott Baio and what was the hit filipino movie about high school days? We had the same teams play a Bring Me game.... Tatiana was captain of the team na walang silbi ang mga bag. Maluz Marquez led the team who had almost all the weird items in their handbags, including earbuds, bandaid, nail file, nailcutter. Maluz's team won both games!!!

And of course, picture taking at every corner of the house and backyard! It was really fun, fun, fun!!! The party didn't end until around 8pm - not after Maluz, Carol, Sybil and Tatiana belted some karaoke songs - including an Endless Love duet from Sybil and Sonny (nagmamadaling umuwi yung dalawa pagkatapos!).
One last surprise, at around 8:30pm, Sandy Alcantara (again from batch 85) came with husband and daughter!! Although nobody else was left except Tatiana and I, we had fun looking at her scrapbook of high school pictures and eating her delicious brownies.
All in all, it was nostalgic and I can say in behalf of everyone who attended, we're definitely looking forward to next years reunion. So, kayong mga hindi pa nakaka-attend, just try it once and you'll be addicted! We're planning a real grand one in the Philippines in 2004 for our 20th year...
Maluz already volunteered her mansion kaya please, please, please, think about it. We'll be sending out some announcements a month in advance so watch out for it ok?!
BTW, we missed Pinky Hemedez, Malou Lazatin, Cecille Beech, Nat Sycip, Maan Maldia, Grace Ordonez, Lizette Toledo and Maricel Tiu this time.... hope you guys can come on the next one!
Thanks for everyone who helped organize and of course attended to make this affair a big success! TULOY PA RIN!!!!!!
